Sunday's Somthing Silly

Hi all,

I thought we might learn about Kangaroo's today! Did you know the following....

*A baby kangaroo at the time of its birth measures 2 centimetres.

*Kangaroos need very little water to survive and are capable of going for months without drinking at all. When they do need water, they dig 'wells' for themselves; frequently going as deep as three or four feet. These 'kangaroo pits' are a common source of water for other animals living in the kangaroo's environment.

*A kangaroo being chased by a dog may jump into a dam. If the dog gives chase, the kangaroo may turn towards the dog, then use its paws to push the dogs head underwater in order to drown it. who knew kangaroo's could be so...vicious/clever??

* Emus and kangaroos cannot walk backwards, and are on the Australian coat of arms for that reason.

there's so much to learn about our land!!

Enjoy today & see you tomorrow :)

Sunday's Somthing Silly

Can you believe it's Sunday again? Here are some Aussie facts for us all. Hope you're enjoying the weekend!

A fun fact: The longest fence in the world, designed to keep the dingo away from sheep, runs for over 5500 kilometers.

A sad fact: 21% of the world's gambling machines are found in Australia.

An interesting fact: In the entire world there are only two mammals which lay eggs. Both of these mammals originate in Australia.

An impressive fact: Australia has the record number of in-vitro babies born in the world. They were also responsible for the first test tube twins, triplets and quadruplets. Even the ultra sound machine was invited in Australia. Other inventions coming from Australia are the surf lifesaving reel, the anthrax vaccine, the rotary hoe, heart pacemaker, and permanent-crease trousers.

See you tomorrow :)

Sunday's Somthing Silly

Hi everyone

I have some very silly laws to share with you today.

Did you know...

* In NSW it is legal to relieve yourself in public if you do so near the rear left tyre
* In VIC it is illegal to wear hot pink pants after noon on Sunday
* It is illegal to walk on the right hand side of the footpath
* Taxi cabs are required to carry a bale of hay in the trunk.
* You must have a neck to knee swimsuit in order to swim at Brighton Beach.
* Only licensed electricians may change a light bulb
* It is illegal to roam the streets wearing black clothes, felt shoes and black shoe polish on your face as these items are the tools of a cat burgular.

A couple of hilarious and slightly concerning international laws include
* In Bermuda it is illegal for a man to have sex with a mother and daughter at the same time.
* In the UK it is legal for a pregnant woman to relieve herself anywhere including in a policeman's hat
* In Memphis, Tennessee, USA it is illegal for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians.

Sunday's Silly Something

I'm here! I'm late but I'm here and I'm sorry. Let's just say my internet "issues" have escalated...not so fun.

What is fun is knowing that in 1838 it was declared illegal to swim at public beaches during the day! This law was enforced until 1902.

It is also fun to know that in 1832, 300 female Convicts at the Cascade Female Factory mooned the Governor of Tasmania during a chapel service. It was said that in a "rare moment of collusion with the Convict women, the ladies in the Governor's party could not control their laughter."

It seems the 1830's were a raucous time in our history!!!

On a serious note, it's not at all fun to know that the young Britt Lapthorne will not be coming home to her family. As fellow Aussies I am sure you will all join me in sending our deepest condolences to the Lapthorne family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at the terribly sad time.

See you tomorrow folks,
Louisa
